Orthopaedics

What we do

Orthopaedics involves the diagnosis and treatment of conditions, diseases and disorders of the musculoskeletal system (bones and joints etc.).  The department of orthopaedics offers general in-patient and out-patient services dealing with common conditions such as osteoarthritis and specialist clinics for upper limb, hip, knee, foot and ankle pathology and also sports injuries.  Patients with back pain requiring surgery are referred to the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, Tallaght or the Mater Hospital, Dublin 7.  The orthopaedic unit also provides emergency on-call services for trauma patients (i.e. fractures, ligament and tendon injuries, and multiple injured patients).
