Please note that St James’s Hospital Physiotherapy Department is now located on the Ground Floor of Hospital 4, off Junction 1, near the James's Street Gate of St. James's Hospital.  

Referral Procedures

Patients require a doctor's referral from a Consultant team within the Hospital to see a physiotherapist in St. James’s Hospital. Referrals are prioritised on receipt as urgent or routine, based on the information provided.

Appointment Instructions

Travelling to the Hospital for your appointment

  • Please visit here for information on parking and public transport options to St. James’s Hospital.  
  • Please note that parking at the Hospital is very limited. The Hospital experiences high demand for parking at certain times during the busy weekday periods and delays may be experienced accessing Hospital car parks. Where feasible, you may wish to consider accessing our campus by alternate means.
  • If you have no alternative to using your car to travel to the Hospital for your physiotherapy appointment, we kindly request that you plan to arrive at the Hospital at least 30 minutes before your appointment time as there may be a long delay in accessing the car park.

About your physiotherapy appointment

  • Please make sure to check in at reception for all your appointments.

  • Please attend on time as patients are seen on a timetabled basis. If you are late, we may not be able to see you, as this can cause delays for patients who have appointments after you.

  • Your physiotherapy appointment will generally be 30-40 minutes.

  • The physiotherapist may carry out a physical examination, so wear suitable underwear. Bringing along shorts/ loose clothing is beneficial.

  • Please bring a list of any medicines you are taking with you.

    Please note our cancellation / non attendance policy

  • If you fail to attend your first appointment, you will be automatically discharged.

  • If you have 2 non attendances during the course of your treatment you will be automatically discharged. 

  • If you cancel an appointment or fail to attend for your appointment during your treatment you must contact us for a new appointment within two weeks or you will be discharged.  

  • If you are discharged from physiotherapy another referral will be required if you need further physiotherapy.

  • Cancellation of three consecutive appointments will lead to discharge
