What we do

The Department is based at the Jonathan Swift Clinic (JSC), St. James's Hospital and provides services to a population of approx 136,000 in Dublin South City and suburbs. The catchment area includes all of Dublin 8 and parts of Dublin 6, 12, 14 and 16.

The St James's Hospital Mental Health Services catchment area is divided into 3 sectors: The Camac Sector is based in Inchicore Primary Care Centre, Mental Health Department, and serves the need of the South Inner City.  Drimnagh Sector is based in St Martha's Day Service and serves the needs of parts of Crumlin and Drimnagh. The Owen Doher Sector is presently based in the Jonathan Swift Clinic and serves the needs of suburban areas such as Terenure, Rathgar, Rathfarnham and Ballyboden.

Our service is based on a multidisciplinary team treatment model. Each team comprises a Consultant Psychiatrist, registrar, psychiatric nurse, community psychiatric nurse, social worker and occupational therapist.

Referral Process

All roads covered within the St James's Mental Health Services catchment area are listed below.  Referrals for patients living within these areas should be sent as follows:

• Camac to Inchicore Primary Care Centre, Mental Health Service, Bulfin Road, Dublin 8.
• Drimnagh to St. Martha's Day Service, Kilmainham, 730 SCR, Dublin 8.
• Owen Doher Day Service, Jonathan Swift clinic, St James's Hospital.
• Referrals for persons over 65 years should be sent to the Martha Whiteway Day Hospital, St. Patrick's Hospital.
