At St James’s Hospital, research is not just confined to labs, it’s shaping how patients experience care. One innovative example is a trial which examined if video technology could change how TB patients typically take their medication.
The research team divided patients into two groups, that took their medication differently. One group would receive medication compliance visits from a public health nurse, the other would use Video Observation Therapy (VOT) to monitor compliance.
Following the success of the VOT group, the results from this research highlighted how technology can be used to enhance the patient experience and create leaner processes for monitoring medication compliance.
This initiative is part of a broader commitment at St James’s to use research to improve healthcare delivery, making care more informed, compassionate, and effective.
