Irish Cancer Society Daffodil Centre

The Daffodil Centre is a physical presence of the Irish Cancer Society based in St James’s hospital where anyone concerned, worried or affected by cancer can come to with no appointment necessary. The centre provides a range of cancer information, education programmes, and support services. These services are also available to health care professionals and hospital staff. The Daffodil Centre is managed by a Cancer Nurse with the support of trained volunteers. The Centre is open to everyone Monday to Thursday 8am to 4pm and Friday 10am to 4pm and is located in the main hospital.

The Cancer Nurse takes time to guide patients and families through their cancer experience by providing them with cancer information, advice, emotional and practical support, and signpost to services within the hospital and the community.

Support services available through the Daffodil Centre include:

  • Peer support
  • Remote counselling
  • Translation service
  • Transport service.
  • Practical and Financial services
  • Cancer prevention
  • Cancer awareness
  • Patient education programmes

The Cancer Nurse also collaborates with Trinity St James Cancer Institute (TSJCI) for cancer awareness and cancer prevention campaigns and facilitate educational programmes such as chemotherapy group education for patients starting chemotherapy treatment and LACES (survivorship programme) for patients post treatment or on maintenance therapy. The Daffodil Centre is involved in different hospital groups and committees such as End of Life Care committee, Cancer Nurse Council group, TSJCI survivorship network group etc.
