Meet the Consultant
Dr. Norma O’Leary is a Consultant Physician in Palliative Medicine. She graduated from University College Cork and completed her higher specialist training in palliative medicine in Ireland. She was awarded a medical doctorate by University College Dublin for research carried out on the palliative care needs of patients living with chronic disease in Ireland. This research has been presented and published nationally and internationally. She worked as a consultant in palliative medicine in Marie Curie Cancer Care in Newcastle upon Tyne, England for a number of years. Marie Curie Cancer Care is one of the leading providers of specialist palliative care in both hospice and community settings in the UK. She returned to Ireland in 2009 where she was the regional representative for the Dublin northeast area on the National Clinical Programme for Palliative Care. She took up her current post which is based between St.James’s Hospital and Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross in 2012. Since then she has been involved in the strategic development of specialist palliative care services in St. James’s Hospital with a particular focus on quality. She is a lecturer in palliative medicine for both Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin. She is a lead trainer for the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
