Meet the Consultant
Prof. Kennedy is one of the country's leading medical oncologists. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine, a Bachelor of Surgery and a Bachelor of Obstetrics from the University of Dublin, Trinity College where he was awarded a first class degree and won the university Gold Medal in 1983. His training took him from Ireland to the United States where he started a Clinical Fellowship in Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in 1987 and rose to the position of Associate Professor of Oncology at Johns Hopkins before returning to Ireland in 1998. He currently holds the position of Consultant Medical Oncologist at St. James’s Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital and is Clinical Professor of Medicine in the University of Dublin, Trinity College. Prof. Kennedy is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, immediate past Chairman of the Medical Board of St James’s Hospital, past Chairman of the All Ireland Cooperative Oncology Research Group (ICORG), a past Chairman of the Irish Society for Medical Oncology (ISMO), a previous member of the boards of St Lukes Hospital and of ARC and is currently Chairman of the board of the Irish Cancer Society. His major research interest is in breast cancer and he is the author or co-author of over 100 research publications.
